Michael Berman

Michael Berman BA, MPhil, PhD, works as a teacher and a writer. Publications include A Multiple Intelligences Road to an ELT Classroom and The Power of Metaphor for Crown House, and The Nature of Shamanism and the Shamanic Story for Cambridge Scholars Publishing. Shamanic Journeys through Daghestan and Shamanic Journeys through the Caucasus are both due to be published in paperback by O-Books in 2009, and resource book for teachers on storytelling in 2010. Michael has been involved in teaching and teacher training for over thirty years, has given presentations at Conferences in more than twenty countries, and hopes to have the opportunity to visit many more yet.

Although Michael originally trained as a Core Shamanic Counsellor with the Scandinavian Centre for Shamanic Studies under Jonathan Horwitz, these days his focus is more on the academic side of shamanism, with a particular interest in the folktales with shamanic themes told by and collected from the peoples of the Caucasus. His MPhil is in Religious Studies from Lampeter University, and his PhD, submitted to the Indian Board of Alternative Medicines, explores the concept of soul loss and the way it is dealt with in the shamanic story - a story based on or inspired by a shamanic journey, or one that contains a number of the elements typical of such a journey. The shaman was traditionally a "wounded healer", someone who had been through a near death experience and who was thus considered to be well suited to helping others through traumatic times in their lives. Having survived addiction to tranquillisers, a nervous breakdown, a major heart attack, triple by-pass surgery, a serious motorbike accident, and two divorces, I suppose I could be said to provide a good illustration of the term. However, as to whether what I have learnt along the way can be of help to others, that is for you the reader to decide!

Scott Stenwick

Scott Michael Stenwick was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1969. A natural storyteller from early childhood, he was drawing pictures and assembling them into simple narratives before he could read or write. In elementary school he continued to write stories and was also exposed to computers when his school acquired an Apple II in 1977. He has been writing and programming ever since. As a teenager he developed an interest in esoteric studies following in the footsteps of his great-grandmother, a professional astrologer and medium, and began practicing ritual and ceremonial magick.

Scott attended Saint Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota and graduated in 1991 with a degree in psychology. In college he worked on two novels in addition to his studies but eventually decided that neither was suitable for publication without substantial revision. After graduation he went to work in the computer field and built a career as a software developer and information technology consultant. In this capacity he has worked for several Fortune 500 companies and designed and developed numerous business applications.

Scott lives in Minneapolis with his wife and two daughters. After years of solitary magical and mystical work, he joined Ordo Templi Orientis in 1995 and became a Freemason in 1997. In addition, he is part of a smaller magical working group that has been in operation since 2002 and performed numerous experimental workings seeking to advance the general body of magical knowledge.

Sokarjo Stormwillow

Sokarjo Stormwillow is an author and aspiring gardener living in rural Kansas. She works part time as an office assistant in a hospital and attends college full time. She has been writing and attempting writing since she was very young, frequently submiting fiction stories and little poems instead of book reports and essays. The Tale of Tyrfing is Stormwillow’s first novel to be published, hopefully to be followed by many others. She has loved fantasy since she was very young, blaming the obsession on her Irish and German heritage. Her inspiration for Tyrfing came from a collection of Viking legends, as well as from various fantasy works she has read, and her own muddled up mind.

Sokarjo has always preferred to think for herself. Her mother always said she marched to the beat of her own drum... she also dances to the music only she can hear and falls when skipping up stairs. Sokarjo enjoys music, thunderstorms, willow trees, candlelight, almost any book she can get her hands on, bubble baths, and long walks in the moonlight. She has an insatiable thirst for knowledge and good herbal tea. She appreciates rarities such as honesty, individuality, common sense, and an open mind, especially if all these qualities can be found at once.

Sokarjo is a Norse name, with the j pronounced like a y. Sokarjo was told that it means "She who seeks" and feels that it is quite appropriate. Currently she is seeking to write more books and to learn more about spirituality, relationships, and the meaning of life.
